Reversable waistcincher

A real corset is very hard to make. This is an alternative that looks pretty good, without the hassle of finding the appropriate stuff and making a complicated pattern. A lot of clothing companies produce this kind of garment too. This is how you can make your own. Please note that it's not a real corset. It won't diminish your waist, but it's still pretty!

Needed:
50 cm. black velvet (non stretch)
50 cm. satin
50 cm. black lace  (you can use all kinds of fabric, as long as it is non-stretch)
5 mm grommets (the kind that consists out of two parts)
a cord for the lacing
50 cm.x 4 mm. boning

Measurements:
A= your waist measurement
B= measured about ten cm. above your waist: your ribcache measurement.

1. Draw a pattern as shown in the picture in the upper irght corner. The picture underneath it shows how the look of you cincher changes if you change the pattern.

2. Cut this pattern out of all of the three fabric pieces. Layer them, with the good sides facing in, and the lace in the middle. Sew together, but leave a small gap in the middle (picture 1). Turn inside out through this gap (don't make it to small). Close gap by hand.

3. Stitch a line about 0.5 cm next to the outer edge. Make a small gap in the sides where the boning should be (picture 2). Cut off a piece that should fit in it, bend it gently and shove it inside the casing. (picture 3). Be careful: don't fold the boning! This will show and it doesn't look very nice.

4. Measure the small sides of the corset and decide where you want the grommets to be: I recommend them to place them as close together as is posible, to make the  closure stronger. Mark the spots (very important!) and put them in following the instruction in the package (picture 4). Lace up with the cord and you've got yourself a waist cincher.

Notes:
If you want to make sure that it will fit perfectly, make a mock up version first and try it on. You can do this by cutting out the pattern once from cheap fabric  and wrap it around your body. See if there is any overlap in front, and if it's comfortable. Close it with pins and move around to see if it stays put. If you want more cinch, cut of a little from the small sides. For a good cinch, leave a gap of about two cm. in front. If you made the pattern too small, cut the real pieces a bit larger.
