| Hourglass underbust corset
Every women dreams of having an hourglass figure with a small waist, and a corset helpes a lot when you try to achieve a narrow waistline. I wasn't satisfied with the available methods of patternmaking for a diy corset, so I did a lot of measuring with my own corsets and came up with this. I just finished making it and it looks great and has a good fit. Corsetmaking isn't as hard as you might think, but it's time consuming and you have to work carefully. These instructions are translated in Norwegian by Anne Sophie Ofrim who created a PDF file of these images and the translated text.. She's the owner of the online corset store ' bastet korsetter' click here for the PDF file. Before you start First of all, this is a project aimed at experienced seamstresses, so if you don't fully understand the directions below, don't even try it. It would be a waste of good (and expensive!) material. If you have any questions, you can e-mail me. Second, here are some guidelines for taking care of yourself and your corset. Taking care of your corset: *wear something inbetween the corset and your skin to soak up transpiration. This will prevent your corset from getting dirty. *if it smells a bit of transpirations, use the 'smell away-spray' (There are different brands that carry this procuct) and let the corset air out. If the inside is getting dirty, try cleaning it with a wet towel. If it's really dirty, take it to the dry cleaner. Never ever try to wash it by hand!!! The metal in the corset will rust because of the water and this will cause rust stains that you cannot remove in any way (not even drycleaning). *after wearing your corset, hang it out to air. Do not bundle it up for storage, but let it hang in your closet so it can 'breathe'. If, for any reson, you have to keep it stuffed in a bag or something, add a bit of unboiled rice to soak up moist. * putting yoiur corset on: loosen the laces in the back and fasten the frontclosure starting with the bottom pin and working your way up. Make sure that the corset sits in the right place (not too high or low) and start tightening the laces from the outside towards the inside were the two loops are. Do this litte by little. Taking care of yourself: *Do a bit of corset training so your body can get used to being laced up. Start with wearing the corset for a few hours with medium thight laces. Wear it longer the next time, and so on. If your body is comfortable with wearing the corset all day with medium tight lacing, start tightening the laces some more. *when wearing a corset, don't drink a lot of alcohol, soda's or eat greasy food. Drink water instead. If you're going to have dinner, loosen the lacing before you start eating. * don't try to do heavy physical exercise. Do's: a bit of dancing, standing for a long time, walking. Don't's: running, jumping up and down. * don't wear a corset too often. Give your body some time to recover from wearing it. After some corset training you can wear it for several days in a row if you want to, but try to loosen the laces as often as possible and give your body a full weeks rest if you have worn it for several days in a row. A last note: This pattern and directions are made by me. Though it looks and feels right, I'm not a schooled corset maker. If you follow the directions above, you'll be fine, but this corset is not tested for tightlacing. Everything on this website is copywrited to me. You can put up a link to this page without notifying me (though I would appreciate it) but don't take stuff of this site and put it up elsewhere. Thank you! Continue to the pattern |
