| Victorian fan tail skirt august 2007 I didn't think of making something new untill it was the week before Summer Darkness 2007, the annual Dutch gothic festival in Utrecht. This skirt was made in a very short time. I started brwosing for suitable patterns on monday and received the Truly Victorian pattern for the late victorian fan tail skirt on teusday. I have nothing but praise for the Truly Victorian patterns: well made, clear instructions and the finished item is true to the victorian style. I transfered the pattern pieces to paper on teusday night and constrcted the basic skirt on wednesday. So far I was glad that I was able to construct anything at all, considering that I also have a day job. The festival was only 2 days away, but the skirt was missing something. Trim!!! Thursday I went out to buy the white trim and I created the ruffle on the bottom. As I gathered, pinned and stitched trim, my awe for the victorian seamstresses reached new heigths. On friday I ran to the store in my lunchbreak for black lace trim for an extra row. The festival started that afternoon and I knew that I couldn't add this trim in time. I went tih the 12 yard tribal skirt instead, got up really early on saturday to add the black lace and wore ithe skirt that afternoon. This picture was taken 11.00 a.m. on saturday in the medieval garden next to the Dom church in Utrecht. Thanks to this skirt I'm now a member of trim addicts anonymous. I'm not ready to take step one: aknowledge your problem. I ordered even more Truly Victorian patterns to extend my wardrobe... |
