Tudor gown
july 2007

For this dress I was aiming for 'sort of resembling a historical Tudor gown'. The annual fantasy festival was getting close and I needed something to wear. I resorted to Simplicity pattern 4508 and used a gorgeous jacquard fabric that i found at the local fabric market. It took me ages to finish the bodice, I added an extra layer of reinforcement end made a lot of effort to get all the extra boning in. Then i decided that I didn't like the sewing directions for finishing the bodice and fiddled around to get a smoother result on the side seams.

When the bodice was done, I thought I'd passed the worse. However, three kinds of sleeves mean three times more work. It was on the day self that I realised that the sleevs were sagging of my shoulder due to the weight of three sleeves and stuffing.  On the whole, I satisfied with the end result.

The bumroll gave the corect historical silhouette and you can wear a fannypack underneath to store your wallet and keys. Oh, and the silly hat thingie from the pattern doesn't stay put outside (or if you like to move at all) so I have to find something suitable to wear on my head.
